Ritual ceremonies of actions that are sacred to one’s life. They carry a heartbeat which is quite magical and one which has been passed down through cultures, generations and mother nature herself. Visible in the act of blessing our food, the celebration of our birth and the worship of a high power you begin to feel how transformative these ceremonies become. In a growing world of chaos and stress creating your own morning ritual to begin your day is a healing and compassionate act of self-love.

Learning more about myself has lead me to understand what you do when you first open your eyes in the morning is a frim indicator of not only the quality of your day but the quality of your days to come. Committing to a selection of positive, uplifting actions each morning can change your life in unimaginable ways.

Cultivating a morning ritual is creating time for you to work on yourself, to reduce stress and increase positivity. I want to support you in your journey so I have cultivated a list of actions to help you start your morning with self-respect and compassion. But first here is a few little reminders to keep you on track.

First is to start small with one action for a few minutes each morning gradually increasing the time if needed until you feel comfortable with it. Then you can begin to add another one. Second is a reminder. When we start out it’s easy to get side tracked, so small notes or reminders will help to begin and remember your new ritual in the morning. Third being Commitment which relies on your determination for change. When you make small commitments gradually they all seem to fall into place and create a practice which will also increase your immunity, happiness and mental clarity.


Tongue scraping: An Ayurveda self-care ritual removes any unwanted toxins and bacteria debris form the surface of the tongue. Our mouth is the first defense of the body’s immunity so supporting its health is vital to the function of the rest of our bodily systems. Almost half our oral bacteria live on and deep in the crevices of our tongue; the action of a tongue scraper collects these toxins. It improves breath, overall dental hygiene, increase the body’s immune defense and can help balance gut health. The tongue scrapers can be found on amazon and in most health food stores.
How to: Standing in front of a mirror, you scrape your tongue by simply holding the two ends of the scraper in both hands, sticking out your tongue, and placing the scraper as far back on your tongue as possible. With firm but gentle pressure, scrape the surface of your tongue in one long stroke. Rinse the scraper and repeat until your tongue feels clean and is free of coating

Oil pulling: It’s an effective way to help jumpstart the body’s natural detox pathways. The swishing and chewing of using oil as a mouthwash activates the enzymes which draw toxins out of the body’s detox systems including the blood and lymph system. Within 15-20 min these systems have had the opportunity to fully circulate through the body and around the mouth. The lymph system is specifically made up of fat so the activated fat in the mouth attracts the toxins with in the body aiding the body in the removal of these unwanted toxins helping to detoxify the body via the lymph system and bloodstream. It reduces bad breath, kills unwanted pathogens naturally and brightens your teeth. This small little addition to your morning beauty regime can truly help transform your body! A healthy mouth is a happy detox system that means our digestive system, skin and immunity can all do their jobs to keep us healthy and vibrant!
How to: 1. Start on an empty stomach, ideally in the morning when you wake up.
2. Scoop/pour out 1 Tbsp coconut oil or sesame seed oil (optional: add one drop of clove or guard essential oil which will help boost the body’s immunity and detox – Doterra or Snow lotus are brands I recommend)These oils have healing antibacterial properties and should be cold pressed, organic, extra virgin.
TIP- I use a timer and continue my morning rituals while oil pulling. Multitasking at its finest.
3. Swish for 5-20 min (Ideally 20 Min for full circulation) the oil should feel thin and look white in color.
4. Spit out in Trash can
5. Rinse with salt water (1/2 tsp sea salt- Celtic or Himalayan salt in warm water) Gargle so the salt water can rinse out the back of your throat. Don’t be alarmed if you see phlem, it’s a good sign as the body is getting rid of the gunk. Better out than in!
6. Brush your teeth - Opt for a natural toothpaste, especially fluoride free as it inhibits the body’s metabolism. I recommend Himalaya Botanique- Toothpaste. There are plenty out there on the market so feel free to experiment and find one you love.   
7. Now get shaking- since you just removed unwanted bacteria from your mouth and gut movement will help the lymph system stay stimulated throughout the day continuing the detox benefits you have just initiated. A walk, yoga, interval training, rebounding are a few exercise that will keep it moving and not to mention give us happy feels!

Morning tonic: Remember our body is made up of 70 percent of water so beginning our day with it helps support our bodies basic need. Warm water (large glass) with ½ squeezed fresh lemon or 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar. When you wake up in the morning you have just gone without water for 6-8 hours, so it’s important to activate the body’s metabolism and detox pathways by flushing it out. Having a warm detox water before any food or beverage will allow your body to address vital water needs and stimulate the body to get started. Chinese medicine states anything cold specifically in the morning will case stagnation.


Organic/Bio Energized Skin Care: Or skin is the largest organ we have and it’s what we show to the outside world. Taking special care of it using the best quality products (organic and bio energized) as our skin absorbs 60 percent of what we come into contact with. This stimulates the body into state of peace and positivity helping you care for the ones you love and determination to enjoy every moment of your day. Meditation has ancestral roots in which allowed cultures to become truly connected with their surroundings, mother nature and ultimately their selves. The act of meditation helps quite in  our mind and help us reconnect our mind, body and spirit. Whether it’s for 5 min or an hour the quieting of the mind allows us to connect with our inner peace and discharge the stress and anxiety.
